Made in the Cellar is a Sheffield-based, family-run business specialising in the creation of beautiful, handmade furniture, made from sustainable materials.

Having started life (quite literally) in a cellar, the business has experienced significant growth in recent years and now occupies its own expansive workshop and showroom, offering a wide range of beautiful, made-to-order tables, sideboards, shelving units and much more.

To help take their online sales to the next level, the team at Made in the Cellar approached Ink & Water, having seen our work for Natural Bed Company. We took time to understand the company’s values and ethos, as well as their aims and objectives for the website. The site needed to be aesthetically beautiful and easy to manage, as well as technically robust, to accommodate the large number of product variations available to customers.

An identity to be proud of

As part of the design process, we also created a new logo and associated visual identity, which helped not only to freshen up the ‘MITC’ brand, but make it more memorable. The colour palette used draws inspiration from a selection of Farrow & Ball paint colours, which are used to across the company’s range of bespoke furniture.

Stand out features of the site include a technically complex product variations and pricing system, which is easy for the MITC team to update when material costs fluctuate. The site also features a unique ‘moodboard’ feature, allowing users to experiment with different wood and colour combinations, as well as handle options, before they buy.

The end result is a website which not only looks great, but provides a much improved user experience, as well as enhanced site management capabilities. The team at Made in the Cellar were delighted with the results:

“We had the pleasure of working with Ink & Water on our massive website build and design. We needed developers who could communicate in a friendly, approachable way, and they delivered! With an e-commerce site featuring over 80,000 product variations, we had clear objectives on how we wanted the website to function. The team patiently worked with us through every step and were always understanding and quick to work through any issues. Every time we asked for something complex, they worked hard to make it happen. We’re so grateful for their support and highly recommend them! The new website has exceeded our very high expectations!”
