When the Diocese of York set out to replace its outdated website, they wanted more than just a new look. They needed a site that could support the day-to-day life of a large, diverse diocese, while also reflecting their vision of Living Christ’s Story.
We partnered with the diocesan team to completely reimagine the site from the ground up. Our process started with listening — to clergy, parishes, schools, and diocesan staff — so we could design a structure that truly served their needs. The new site makes resources easy to find, offers a clear route into diocesan news and events, and provides accessible guidance for those engaging with the church at every level.
Visually, we created a fresh, welcoming design that combines clarity with warmth. The site is responsive across devices, flexible enough to adapt to future growth, and built on a robust WordPress framework that makes content management straightforward for staff. With improved navigation, powerful search tools, and carefully considered accessibility, the Diocese of York now has a digital home that is as practical as it is inspiring.

“The whole process with Ink & Water – from conception, through the design phase, to the ongoing maintenance of the site – has been excellent. Ink & Water are reliable, responsive, and knowledgeable, and we’re really glad we put our trust in them. They understand the complexities of the work of a diocese and have added some really helpful features to our site. I enjoy working with them and would highly recommend them as a company.”

The feedback since launch has been overwhelmingly positive. Clergy and parish officers have praised how much easier it is to find resources and guidance, while regular visitors have commented on the modern, clean look and feel. The improved search functionality and intuitive layout have been particularly well received, helping people spend less time looking for information and more time engaging with it. For the diocesan staff, managing and updating content is now simpler and more efficient — making the site not just user-friendly for the public, but also a valuable tool behind the scenes.
