When the Church of England set the ambitious goal of reaching net zero carbon by 2030, they needed a clear, engaging, and consistent way to tell that story across their 42 dioceses. That’s where we came in. Ink and Water was commissioned to design and deliver a complete national communications toolkit – a resource that would help dioceses, churches, cathedrals, schools, and community leaders share the vision, inspire action, and celebrate progress.

We have worked with Ink & Water for the last 18 months to create various digital resources for our Net Zero Programme. This has included an Impact Report, flyers, social media adverts and an ‘out of the box’ communications toolkit for 42 CofE dioceses to use at a local level. The toolkit included a new logo, graphic icons, templates for posters, flyers and social media, a style guide and much more. Ink & Water have listened to our extensive brief and more than met our expectations and I’ve had amazing feedback from our network of parishes and dioceses about the design of our creative materials. Simon is also very patient when I inevitably come back with amends and is on hand to meet deadlines when needed. I’ve enjoyed working with Simon and the team – they’re always friendly, approachable and willing to go the extra mile to produce engaging, creative designs

Helen Rimmer, Senior Communications Officer, Church of England

We developed a fresh, flexible brand identity that could unite the campaign while still allowing space for local personality. From logo design and colour palettes to typography, iconography, and photography guidelines, every detail was created to work seamlessly in both print and digital formats. We also produced a library of ready-to-use templates, social media assets, and messaging frameworks, making it easy for anyone – from seasoned communications teams to local volunteers – to run engaging, on-brand campaigns.

Beyond design, our focus was on clarity and accessibility. We collaborated closely with diocesan communications leads and environment officers, ensuring the toolkit not only looked great but was practical, adaptable, and genuinely useful on the ground. The result is a unified national identity that amplifies the Church’s environmental message, encourages participation, and helps make the vision of net zero by 2030 feel both urgent and achievable.
