A striking look for Sheffield's newest music extravaganza

Outlines – Tramlines’ Sister Festival

We’re big fans of Sheffield’s premier music event – Tramlines – here at Ink & Water, so were delighted to provide the identity for its sister festival – Outlines – which takes place in the city at the beginning of the year.

It’s not an easy task to come up with something that both links the event with its big brother, but also has its own voice. Furthermore, with an eclectic range of artists performing, its just as important to avoid a design that seems too specific to one genre.

To further complicate matters we are under strict instructions to keep things bright and vibrant, to encourage music goers to head out on what might well be a wet and windy weekend in February.

An Identity That Resonates

With time and budgets tight we put our heads together. Using a simple circular motif (one that references both Tramlines and sound waves) – alongside a bright and interchangeable colour scheme we managed to create an identity that was recognisable enough and flexible enough for the guys running the festival to use on everything from teaser posters to tote bags.

The event has gone from strength to strength and our designs continue to resonate with both its organisers and attendees.
